Rick Stansbury finalized contract negotiations and accepted the head coaching position at Western Kentucky on Sunday, a source told Scout.
Stansbury, 56, has been the associate head coach at Texas A&M the past two seasons. He was previously the head coach at Mississippi State for 14 years, where he compiled a record of 293-164.
WKU parted ways with Ray Harper on May 17th. Harper had been the head coach of the Hilltoppers for the past five seasons.
Stansbury emerged as the favorite for the Western Kentucky job this past Wednesday. WKU also strongly considered Xavier associate head coach Travis Steele and former WKU coach Dennis Felton.
WKU set a press conference for Monday at 1:00 CT.
