"At this point it was about finding the best fit for myself and when it came down to it SMU had everything I was looking for," Whitt said. "The development side and playing style were all there for me. It's a great program moving in a big direction, and it's nice to be apart of a place you see having great success and expects to continue that success moving forward."
In a reserve role as a freshman, Whitt averaged 6.1 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.
Whitt, who is from Columbia (Mo.) Hickman, is a 6-foot-2 combination guard. In high school Whitt was regarded as a four-star recruit and was ranked No. 72 overall in Scout's 2015 top 100.
Whitt will have to sit out this coming season, due to NCAA transfer rules, and will be eligible during 2017-2018 season. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
