NCAA Men’s Basketball AP Top 25 Rankings – Week 7

The NCAA men’s basketball AP top 25 rankings have been released for Week 7 following an instant classic between Kentucky and North Carolina.

The top 10 teams in the Week 7 AP poll look strikingly similar to that of the previous week. That’s because the nation’s elite teams took care of business as expected in a week that featured one of the best college basketball games in recent memory.

Saturday’s meeting between Kentucky and North Carolina was an instant classic (in December, no less). The matchup featured both blue-blood programs trading blows for the full duration of the game, ending in a down-t0-the-wire 103-100 victory for the Wildcats. Numerous NBA prospects put their true talents on display in a game that had scouts salivating, with the undoubted star of the show being Kentucky freshman Malik Monk.

The young shooting guard out of Bentonville, Arkansas dropped a mind-boggling 47 points, setting a new record for the most points scored by a freshman in Kentucky history.

The loss pushed the Tar Heels down one spot in the AP Polls, flip-flopping with the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the No. 7 and 8 slots, respectively. Had the AP decided to keep North Carolina in the No. 7 hole, though, there likely wouldn’t have been much debate.

Creighton got bumped up to the No. 9 spot, and Louisville stands at the newcomer to the top 10 after sitting at No. 11 in last week’s rankings.

There are no newcomers in this week’s polls, although Notre Dame fell to No. 25 after back-to-back losses to No. 1 Villanova and No. 15 Purdue.
