Bears Bounce Back

Any concerns about how # 15 Baylor (8-1) would respond after their first loss on Saturday were quickly put to rest as the Bears cruised to an 83-50 win over San Diego (2-9) in Hawaii. With the win the Bears advance to the second round of the Diamond Head Classic and will play Washington State (9-1) tomorrow at 5:30 CST on ESPN U.

Baylor didn't waste any time in the game, jumping out to an early 18-3 lead. Junior forward Anthony Jones led the Bears early in the game, scoring 8 of the team's first 14 points. The length and athleticism of the Bears proved to be too much for San Diego from the start and resulted in numerous forced passes, rushed shots, and turnovers. By halftime, it looked like Baylor might hold their opponent under 40 points for the second time in three games, taking a 48-19 lead into the break.

After shooting just 36.7% against Gonzaga, Baylor responded by shooting 53.8% on Wednesday. The offensive attack was very balanced against San Diego, with 5 players finishing with double-digit points. Anthony Jones led all scorers with 16 points. LaceDarius Dunn returned to form, shooting 62% (including 3/5 from beyond the arc) to finish with 13 points. Nolan Dennis came in off the bench and added 10 points to go along with 2 steals. However, Baylor was still plagued by the turnover bug, committing 15 in the game.

Defensively, Baylor was dominant the entire game. The Bears held San Diego to 31.5% from the floor and forced 21 turnovers in the game.
