Cyclones Drop Bears

It was a rough night in Ames for Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears (12-4, 2-1) as they fell to the Iowa State Cyclones (14-4, 1-2) 72-57. Iowa State's Jamie Vanderbeken had a career high 21 points to help the Cyclones pull away from the Bears.

AJ Walton gave the Bears an early 3-0 lead right out of the gate. As was the case all night, Iowa State had an answer and countered with a three-point shot of their own. The Cyclones finished with 14 three-pointers, one shy of the school record and shot 56% on the night from beyond the arc.

The first half was full of runs and lead changes, with the Bears leading through much of the first half. However, Scott Christopherson hit a shot from beyond the arc with 3:24 remaining in the first half to take the lead for good. By halftime the Cyclones had extended their lead to 7 points. Baylor came out in the second half and was able to bring the game back to a 1 point game, but could never regain the lead. Coach Drew even abandoned the 2-3 zone the Bears have run for much of the past two seasons to play man-to-man but the Bears couldn't find an answer to Iowa State's hot shooting.

LaceDarius Dunn lead the Bears with 20 points, but only went 8/19 shooting in the game. AJ Walton chipped in 12 points to go along with 6 assists. Iowa State was also able to contain freshman phenom Perry Jones, who was coming off a career high scoring performance against Oklahoma Tuesday night.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Bears, who will be hosting ESPN's Big Monday in Waco as they face off with #3 Kansas (17-0, 2-0) at 8:30.
