Bears Snag Highly Touted LB

More from Baylor's latest commitment Ryan Flannigan. The Fort Bend Marshall linebacker gave his verbal pledge to play for the Baylor Bears on Saturday. Come inside to learn more about what he said.

Ryan Flannigan had been seeing his stock rise in recent months. The Marshall High School linebacker had received verbal offers from Arizona and Indiana and was also getting interest from Texas Tech and Texas A&M as well. However, on Saturday he received an offer he couldn't refuse.

Flannigan made the decision to commit to the Bears after receiving his verbal offer earlier in the day and watching Baylor scrimmage.

"I chose Baylor because it has always been one of my dream teams. And as I visited today, I felt it was right and this is what I want to be," said the talented Flannigan.

I suppose you can say that in many ways, getting to play for a program like Baylor is a dream come true.

"I used to see them play when I was a kid. I thought about being a Baylor Bear but never thought it would happen. I'm happy to get the shot," said Flannigan.

While it may be a relief to Flannigan himself, it probably isn't all that surprising to Baylor fans. Since the hiring of Defensive Coordinator Phil Bennett in January, there has been a large emphasis on speed and intelligence in Baylor's defensive recruiting. As a junior, Flannigan used his quickness and instincts to tally 111 tackles and 8 sacks en route to an All-District selection. Bringing that sort of play to the linebacking corps is exactly what Bennett has sought out to do.

Now that Baylor has his commitment, can they hold on?

"It's still early in [my] recruitment so we'll see by August if this is 100% my choice," said Flannigan who'd like to hit up some camps, including Baylor again.

"If I don't change my mind in the summer, which I probably won't, then I'll know I'm definitely going to Baylor."
