Bayou Bowl 2003 - The Teams, Pt. 2

In the 2003 Bayou Bowl, the Texas All-Stars will be quarterbacked by Drew Tate, 6-1, 175, formerly of Baytown Lee who is going to Iowa, and Chad Huffman, 6-1, 200 of Ft. Bend Elkins. They'll be handling the ball off to Alief Elsik's Ray Miller, 5-7, 175, Cy Fall's Cermase Barry, 5-10, 150, and Brenham's Justin Hardeman, 5-11, 195, who could play some fullback.

Tate and Huffman will be looking to throw to several wide receivers. Bennie Swain of Madison, who as a junior was catching several long passes from Madison standout quarterback Vincent Young who cast his lot to play for the University of Texas, will be joined by Donnie Avery of Hastings, David Washington of Baytown Sterling, Michael Gwin of Stratford, Zach Muzzy of Alvin, and Omar McKenzie of Ft. Bend Dulles, who will line up at tight end.

Protecting the quarterbacks and trying to open holes for the running backs will be a squad of seven offensive linemen, some of whom loom large. Byron Alford, 6-3, 280 of Port Arthur Memorial, Kirk Elder, 6-4, 316 of Klein Oak, Nick Pace, 6-3, 276 of Katy Cinco Ranch, Trevor Rees, 6-2, 275 of Pearland, Kellen Taylor, 6-4, 320 of Richmond Foster, Chris Yoder, 6-3, 285 of Humble Kingwood, and Lamar Williams, 6-4, 320 of Beaumont Westbrook. Pace and Taylor, as most of you know, are Baylor bound.

Along the defensive front, the Texans will count on defensive ends Marquis Fountain, 6-3, 285 of Ft. Bend Hightower and John Williams, 6-6, 220 of Houston Lamar and defensive tackles George Chukwu, 6-1, 280 of Ft. Bend Bush and Martin Thompson, 5-11, 280 of Aldine Eisenhower.

The Texas will have several linebackers to choose from. Kenton Alleyne, 6-0, 180 of The Woodlands, Anthony Crosby, 6-1, 230 of Katy High, Jared Dolen, 5-10, 210 of Barbers Hill, Vontear Edwards, 5-11, 185 of West Orange-Stark, KaMichael Hall, 6-1, 210, Klein Forest, Vance McLain, 6-2, 240 of Rosenberg Terry, Kyle Simpson, 6-1, 245 of The Woodlands, and Matt Siska, 6-3, 230 of Sealy will all see plenty of action. Siska and McClain could double as defensive ends, if necessary.

The secondary will be made up from several candidates, among who are Corey Campbell, 6-3, 195 of Spring Westfield, Rickey Coxeff, 6-1, 180 of Galena Park North Shore, Jonathan Denman, 6-3, 185, Ft. Bend Kempner, Earnest Powell, 5-7, 165 of Ft. Bend Hightower, Sendrick Steptoe, 5-9, 175 of Bryan High, and Calvin Williams, 5-10, 175 of Spring. All have very good speed and quickness.

The complete rosters of both teams, which include coaching staffs, are below. Once again, the game is Saturday evening, June 21, at 8:00 p.m. at Stallworth Stadium. From west or east, just take the Sjolander Road exit and turn south. That's right if you're eastbound on I-10 and left, underneath the interstate if you're westbound. The stadium will be on your right at Archer. You can't miss it.
