Baylor Escapes with Victory

The Baylor Bears escaped with a hard-fought victory Thursday night.

No one said it would be easy. As Coach Scott Drew says, when you get to the NCAA tournament, everyone is good. That certainly seemed to be the case when #3 seed Baylor took on #14 South Dakota State Thursday night.

The Jackrabbits of South Dakota State got out to an early 8-0 lead, before ultimately succumbing to Baylor in a 68-60 victory for the Bears. Baylor never could pull away in the hard fought game, as they struggled with consistent play throughout.

With Perry Jones and Quincy Acy only scoring 6 combined points, the Bears relied on the stellar guard play of Brady Heslip and Pierre Jackson to lead them to victory. The two combined for more than half of the Bears total point output.

There's no doubt the Bears will have to play better to keep advancing, but in a tournament known for early round upsets, Baylor's plenty happy to get out of their first game with a win.
