Player Spotlight: B.J. Allen

All summer long leading up to the opening kickoff for the Baylor Bears, BearsIllustrated.com will spotlight players on the 2012 Baylor football roster.

Player Spotlight—B.J. Allen

Redshirt freshman B.J. Allen enters the 2012 season battling for playing time on the depth chart at running back. The 5'9" athlete is a versatile player out of the backfield and can line up in the slot and go in motion to create mismatches for the opposing defense. Allen has demonstrated the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield in high school and in scrimmages during Baylor's practice sessions.

Allen was a Scout.com 3-star recruit coming out of Tatum High School that has interest from Arkansas, TCU, and Oklahoma State.

Projection:

Allen had a very good spring camp, but with senior tailback Jarred Salubi and junior running back Glasco Martin in front of him on the depth chart, this season may not be the most active for Allen in the backfield for the Bears. Allen will likely make an impact the following season sharing time with Lache Seastrunk. However, with his big play ability, Allen may see the field in certain situations as a slot receiver coming out of the backfield in motion. Allen also has shown the ability to field punts and could get extended playing time as a redshirt freshman on special teams.
