Player Spotlight: Devante Davis

All summer long leading up to the opening kickoff for the Baylor Bears, BearsIllustrated.com will spotlight players on the 2012 Baylor football roster.

Player Spotlight—Devante Davis

Devante Davis is a 6'2" 200-pound outside linebacker/nickel-back for the Baylor Bears. He committed to Baylor and signed as part of the Class of 2011 choosing Baylor over offers from Utah, SMU, Colorado State, and others. The Dallas Lincoln product red-shirted his freshman year. Under rated coming out of high school, Davis was ranked in the top 150 among outside linebackers in the country according to Scout.com.

Projection:

We believe that Devante Davis is going to be a star in the Big 12. With Ahmad Dixon in the starting role ahead of Davis, and with Prince Kent battling for playing time as well, Davis may not have his breakout year this season. However, the potential to have a breakout year is there. Davis has showed flashes of athleticism that makes any fan of defense excited. He has the ability to cover, and has showed the energy, passion, and ability to tackle. His angles are good, and he flies around the football field. If he can do on the football field what he has done on the practice field, Davis will be one of the best in the country by the time he graduates from Baylor.
