Several Checking on Martin

FOX Sports NEXT is in the streets this fall to bring you all the coverage from across the Midlands region. Recently, we caught up with Manvel athlete Koda Martin from Texas. He talked about how the win and gave us a quick update on recruiting…

There are not many coaches who wouldn't want a player who passes the eyeball test like Manvel (TX) athlete Koda Martin. In this feature we are choosing not to list a position due the number of positions Martin is qualified to play.

On last Friday, the top class of 2014 athlete Martin was mainly at defensive end where he wreaked havoc and was effective as a run stopper and pass rusher. It seems as though he and the team had a point to prove in the 42-28 win.

"We really came together and played four quarters. This is the best we have played all year," Martin said. "Our coaches did a good job of preparing. We had never played Pearland before and lots of people were wondering how we were going to fit into (Class) 5A. It was a lot of talk about it, but we rose up and showed what we are made of."

If there was a point to be made, it is duly noted. And while his focus is on making another strong playoff run with his teammates, there are plenty of coaches taking notice to his abilities as well. The 6-foot-7, 240-pound Martin said he has close to a dozen offers to date, including programs like Oklahoma and Colorado, and most recently, as told to us from his father and coach Kirk Martin said, Texas A&M.

"I have about 10 offers. So far I visited Oklahoma and Texas A&M, but I'm focusing on my high school while it last. I'll make a decision sometime this spring," Martin said. "Most programs want to use me at tight end and some want me as a left tackle. A couple coaches want me at defensive end because that's where I was last spring.

"I'm a real athletic guy and will play my team needs me to. I'm just a ball player."

That indeed he is.
