On Thursday, Plano (TX) HS Junior Sam Tecklenburg received the offer he had been waiting for. Soon after being offered by the Baylor coaching staff, Tecklenburg jumped at the chance to play football for Coach Art Briles and the Baylor Football team. "I started talking to Baylor about a year ago, and from that time I knew Baylor was my favorite school and where I wanted to be," Tecklenburg said. "When I got the offer, I sat down with my parents and I knew Baylor was where I wanted to be, so I committed."
Tecklenburgs father played at Texas Tech, but the elder Tecklenburg left the decision to his son and is proud that he will represent the family at Baylor. So what sold Sam on Baylor? "Really it was everything. The football team is at the top as Big 12 champs, the campus and the facilities are great, and the education is great. Some schools had great football programs, but Baylor had everything."
At Plano, Sam played on both sides of the ball at Tight End and Defensive Tackle. "At Plano, I play on both sides of the ball. I like it," he said, "but at Baylor they are looking at me on the offensive line. They are looking at me at Center, but said that I could move to the defensive line depending on how numbers play out. I'm happy to play wherever they need me to. I just love football and am excited to play football at Baylor." Sam says that his primary recruiter was Coach Jim Gush, but that he recently began speaking with Coach Clements and has formed a great relationship with his future position coach.
