Interest Picking Up For Simpson

BearsIllustrated catches up with 2016 Palisades (CA) HS MLB Alec Simpson, to get the latest on his recruitment.

For many 2016 recruits, their college careers won't begin for another two years. However, with college coaches working to identify talent for their programs earlier and earlier, many of these 2016 recruits are traveling across the country to hone their skills and catch the eye of major D-1 programs. This is no different for Alec Simpson, a 2016 recruit out of Palisades (CA) HS.

The 6'3, 205 lb LB, has seen interest in him pick up drastically since he was named one of the top prospects to watch, in the LA Times. Simpson has seen interest pick up from the likes of USC, UCLA, San Diego State, San Jose State, Illinois, Vanderbilt, Penn State, Texas Tech, and Baylor. Of those schools, Simpson says that he loves their atmospheres and the excellent facilities. He is also looking to major in Business Management (Broadcasting and Journalism), and believes that each of these schools possesses the type of academic excellence that will help him succeed in his area of study. And while academics will be at the top of his mind, Simpson would like to get and visit each school to get to know the coaches better, and see if he can pull in his first offer.

This past week, Alec took in the UCLA Spring Game. It was his first visit of the spring semester. "It was terrific! I loved the recruiting coordinator and the way the team got hype. It even got me pumped!" Simpson said. Another part of the visit that stood out to Alec was the opportunity to meet Coach Mora. "He's an inspiring coach who truly loves the game more than anyone else!"

Along with UCLA, Simpson plans to attend camps at USC, UCLA, and San Diego State. As for schools outside of California, Simpson says that he would also like to visit Illinois and Baylor. Why those schools? "I have family in Illinois, and I'm very interested in the program at Baylor." And while Simpson reports no offers, he is hoping that that will change soon. "I'm hoping they offer soon," Simpson said. "I'm very physical, and very enthusiastic when big plays occur. I love the game with a great passion. I have very quick instincts, fly to the ball, and will hit anything that comes my way!"

Keep it tuned to BearsIllustrated as we continue to monitor Simpson's recruitment.
