Texas DB Looking For First Offer

2016 Midway (TX) HS DB opens up to BearsIllustrated about his summer so far, and the rising interest he is seeing from outside of the state.

Football in Texas has been a hotbed for Coaches on the recruiting trail. With it's rich history of talent, its certainly a go to place when Coaches hit the road in search of talent. With the likes of Derek Johnson, Vince Carter, LaDanian Tomlinson, Robert Griffin III, etc., its hard to argue that premise. Well one High School, in particular, has been a staple in Central Texas for talent, and that is Midway (TX) HS. Midway has produced elite talent in Ahmad Dixon, Beau Blackshear, Orion Stewart, and 2015 4* Safety Kahlil Haughton, among others. Well heading in to 2016, one certain player hopes to be the next top player to come out of the Midway program, and that is Cairo Attaway.

Attaway, a 5'10, 170 lb DB, has certainly seen his stock rise since making his change to DB this spring. Attaway is hearing from schools in the SEC, including Arkansas and Kentucky, as well as out of state schools in Louisiana Lafeyette, and Colorado. Along with out of state schools, he is also hearing a few Texas schools in SMU, TCU, and UTSA. And although he doesn't have an offer, Attaway feels very confident that UTSA could be the first to pull the trigger. "Nobody has done more than UTSA so far in contacting me."

Attaway has had a busy summer, with several stops in the summer camp circuit. "So far I've attended the first Baylor camp in June, was at UTSA on the 11th, and I will be at TCU on the 18th, and Arkansas on July 24th. I'll also probably go to another UTSA camp because they've sent the most letters so far. I plan to be at both Baylor and TCU on the 18th because I want to tour the TCU campus." With Arkansas and Kentucky, Attaway says that both schools are showing some effort in his recruitment, and have shown that with camp invites to their elite camps.

While on the camp circuit, Attaway says that he has received great coaching, and has received several tips on things to work on heading in to this season. "Yes sir, I've definitely gotten some great feedback. The coaches have told me to work on my footwork and overall explosiveness. Currently I've been working on different drills to help me with that."

Aside from Baylor, which he says is a school that he has seen before while living in Waco, Attaway would like to hear from Texas A&M. "Definitely Texas A&M. They've been one of my top schools for a while. They have an excellent Vet school & thats what I want a career in."

Heading in to the last few weeks of summer, Attaway knows what he will have to work on in order to earn his first offer. And he plans to show those improvements at the last couple of camps he plans to attend. BearsIllustrated will catch up with the rising Junior after the last camp in Waco, to see if he is able to earn that first offer.
