The Baylor Bears kickoff their most anticipated season ever as they take on the SMU Mustangs later today at 6:30 pm local time. The game will be aired on Fox Sports 1 for those Baylor fans unable to make it to Waco today. The Bears are not only opening their season, but they are opening McLane Stadium.
The new 260 million dollar stadium has been host to a couple of events this week, including a pep rally, concert, and a high school football game. These events served as tests for new stadium, and the grand opening should go without any problems.
Leading Bears against the Mustangs will be Heisman hopeful Bryce Petty. After an impressive first year as a starter, Petty is back for his senior year to lead the nation's top-offense and will look to start the season off right for the Bears with a W. Look for Petty to show improved pocket presence and footwork, which he worked on throughout the offseason with QB guru Dave Winfield.
Looking to play party crasher, the Mustangs hope to spoil the opening of McLane Stadium by upsetting the Bears. The Mustangs, however, have a new QB, a new offensive coordinator, and a young secondary, which should make it difficult for them to match up with the Bears. If Baylor comes into the game focused, their deadly offense and athletic defense should be too much for the Mustangs.
