Poll Watch

The Baylor Bears beat the TCU Horned Frogs with a comeback for that Baylor fans will remember for a long time, but was it enough to make any inroads in the Polls?

Down 21 points with just over 11 minutes left in the game, the Bears came back in a flurry and then kicked a game winning field goal as time expired, the comeback tied the largest fourth quarter comeback in school history. In the Polls that came out the next day, the Bears actually fell in the Coaches Poll from 3rd to 4th, but they moved up in the AP Poll from 5th to 4th, so the Bears are now the number 4 team in the country according to both of the major Polls.

Baylor jumped Auburn in the AP Poll after they lost to now number 1 Mississippi State. Mississippi State is now ranked 1st in both the AP and Coaches Poll. In the Coaches Poll, both Mississippi State and Ole Miss jumped the Bear. Ole Miss went on the road to College Station and stomped the Aggies. Auburn fell to 8th and 6th in the AP and Coaches Poll respectively. The rest of the Top Ten won all of their games this past weekend, unlike a week ago when almost everyone lost. There are now only five undefeated teams left in the Power Five Conferences, Mississippi State, Florida State, Ole Miss, Baylor, and Notre Dame.

Falling out of the Top 25 in the AP Poll were Georgia Tech after losing to Duke and UCLA after losing to Oregon. In the Coaches Poll, joining them was Missouri after they were embarrassingly shut out at home by a Gurley-less Georgia team. Now ranked in the AP Poll are Clemson and Marshall and joining them in the Coaches Poll is Utah.

The Big 12 now has half of its conference in the Top 15 of both Polls. Oklahoma beat Texas in what is now known as the Red River Showdown in the Cotton Bowl and are ranked 11th in both Polls. After beating Kansas in a close game, Oklahoma State is now ranked 15th in both Polls. Kansas State is now ranked 14th in both Polls after they beat Texas Tech this past weekend. Finally, after falling to Baylor, TCU is now ranked 12th in both of the Polls.

The Bears go on the road to Morgantown this weekend to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers. The Bears need to make sure to be focused after coming off their high of the comeback win against TCU and continue their winning ways. Baylor will have plenty of opportunity to move up the Polls in the coming weeks as long as they keep on winning. Florida State takes on Notre Dame at home this weekend and Louisville on the road the next, unless they pick up their play, look for them to lose one of those. Ole Miss take on Tennessee, LSU, and Auburn in their next three games, and could lose anyone of those games. The Bears, though, just need to keep winning and it will not matter if any team loses in front of them, as they keep winning they will be in the inaugural College Football Playoff.
