Daniel Talks Baylor Commitment

BearsIllustrated caught up with Riley Daniel, who committed to Baylor today to bring the Bears class to 17.

The Bears had a busy weekend hosting several commitments, but also welcoming a few recruits to town.

One recruit which the Bears were looking at, was 6'5, 290 lb Ringling (OK) HS OL Riley Daniel. Daniel has seen an increase in his recruitment over the past few weeks, picking up offers from Baylor, Texas Tech, and Florida, among others.

"It's been a whirlwind past couple of weeks," Daniel said. "I went to Tech last week and had a great visit. But being at Baylor, it just felt right. I'd talked to friends and family and they all had a great feeling about Baylor and me being here for the next 4-5 years."

Daniel was previously committed to Houston, but decommitted when Coach Levine was fired as Head Coach of the Cougars. Once he opened things up, Daniel always had Tech and Baylor at the top. "It has been Tech and Baylor for a while. I had a greyshirt offer from Baylor, so Tech probably had a small lead, but once Baylor made it a full offer, Baylor was right there."

The 6'5 Tackle from Oklahoma, was joined on his trip by his parents. It was important for them to take in everything as well, but Daniel says that they were instrumental in helping him make his decision. "My parents have helped me keep things straight. In the end they wanted me to go with my gut. They really liked Baylor, but wanted me to make the decision for myself. In the end it came down to my comfort level with the school."

Now with his commitment out of the way, Daniel is looking forward to working hard and earning a starting position in the next few years."They have a great OLine coming back next year, so I'm planning to redshirt next year. Then they said that I will be able to compete for a starting position. I'm just ready to get to Baylor on June 1st and get started!"

Daniel gives the Bears 17 commitments on the year. Signing day for the 2015 class is February 4th.
