Denton Guyer QB Talks Coach Briles and Baylor

BearsIllustrated caught up with 2017 Scout 5* QB Shawn Robinson to get the latest on his recent visit to the Baylor campus.

2017 Denton (TX) Guyer HS QB Shawn Robinson made a visit to Baylor, earlier today, to take in the campus and sit down one-on-one with Coach Art Briles to talk football.

Growing up in Denton gave him an opportunity to attend Baylor QB camps since he was in seventh grade, and with him heading in to his Jr season, Robinson can see the possibility of playing for the school he has been watching since seventh grade.

“It went great! I love the atmosphere,” Robinson explained. “I’m not trying to jump to conclusions but it felt like home. I was very comfortable with the coaching staff and the players. It was just a great feel.”

Robinson said he spent most of his time today touring the facilities with Coach Briles himself as well as Coach Trahan, the Director of Football Operations.

“Our relationship is pretty good,” Robinson said when asked about his relationship with Coach Briles. “I feel 100% comfortable around him. From the times that we’ve talked we can talk about pretty much anything. I’m pretty much cool with everybody.”

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound quarterback also has 8 other offers besides Baylor. Some of his offers include other Big 12 schools such as Texas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and TCU.

“The other school I’ve been talking with a lot is TCU,” Robinson said. “I’ve been to TCU probably about five times. I was just there two weeks ago during spring break. I have a pretty good relationship with them as well.”

Robinson has been staying close to home on his first couple of visits but plans to reach out to other schools that have offered him for a visit.

“I’m going to LSU, Ole Miss, USC,” Robinson listed. “Most of the offers that I have right now I will be trying to visit those schools.”

When speaking with Robinson I couldn’t help but notice how poised and humble he was. When asked about other offers he would like to receive, Robinson had a very humbled answer.

“I’m very blessed and very grateful to have the offers I have,” Robinson said. “If I didn’t get anymore offers other than the ones I have, I would be perfectly fine. Florida would be a cool offer to get but so would any other school. If I get more offers I will be very blessed.”

This recruiting process has been a whirlwind so far but Robinson has been able to stay focused and looks to accomplish more in his time at Guyer High School.

“Winning a state championship is my focus right now,” Robinson said. “Just getting better and being a leader is all I care about right now.”

With signing day still 2 years away for Robinson, BearsIllustrated will continue to monitor his recruitment and bring you the latest!
