The 6-foot-3, 199-pound athlete just recently switched from the backup quarterback position to wide receiver this past year and that’s not surprising given his height and speed with a 40 time of 4.54, which he recorded at the Nike SPARQ combine.
Atkinson wasn’t planning on making a commitment until just before or during his senior season, but with the commitment of 2016 Dangerfield wide receiver, Denzel Mims, Atkinson knew he had to make a quick decision if he wanted a chance to join the Baylor movement.
“I knew Baylor was one of my top choices of the offers that I had,” Atkinson said. “Once my coach told me that spots were being filled and I had to hurry up and make a decision within the next two weeks, I just went ahead and did it today.”
On May 31, Atkinson visited Baylor during camp, which helped solidify his desire to be a Baylor Bear.
“When I went on my visit and took the tour around there, the coaches just made me feel at home,” Atkinson said. “We always talk everyday about anything no matter what it is. They just want to hold a conversation.”
“I’m pretty much done,” Atkinson said.
That’s as good of a response as any, and one the Bears will be happy to hear.
