The Bears received some much needed good news this evening when 2016 DB Donovan Duvernay became the 14th commitment for the 2016 class.
Donovan is a 5'8.5, 177 lb Senior out of Garland (TX) Sachse HS. Duvernay is currently a jack-of-all-trades for the Mustangs, as he plays defense, offense, and special teams. Duvernay is currently listed as a 3-star DB recruit for Scout.com, but will likely wear the ATH tag at Baylor.
Donovan is a very underrated player, but he fits the exact mold of an athlete that Baylor has built its success on. Duvernay is an elite punt and kick returner, and will likely be given a shot early to show those skills at Baylor. While he will also get a shot at offense, Duvernay's likely spot will be on the defensive side of the ball. Duvernay has good ball skills, and plays good technique. He is a great athlete, so that is something that intrigues the staff, but his ball skills on that side of the ball will help to continue to improve a defense that is still finding it's place amongst one of the top offenses in the Country.
The other intriguing aspect of this commitment is what it could mean for his twin brother Devin. Devin is the 29th ranked player in the Scout 300, the #3 overall WR in the Country, and the #1 WR in the State of Texas. It is believed that both Devin and Donovan will attend the same school, but this commitment should not be overshadowed. Donovan has earned the offers and will be a great player in his own right.
