Official Visits In Full Gear
The Baylor coaching staff welcomed 16 official visitors to the Baylor campus this weekend.
Last night, the entire group go together for dinner and conversation with the Baylor coaching staff. These visits are a great way for the commitments to gel with the coaches, the players and to get a feel for what the lifestyle is going to be like as a Baylor Bear.
On Saturday, the players wll get a tour of the campus and McLane Stadium. Later in the day, they will likely meet with academic advisors to discuss the education they will be receiving while at Baylor. This will lead in to a night of fun with their player hosts and the coaches.
All in all, colleges go all out on these visits and put their best foot forward to impress. Below is a picture of all the visitors on hand:
If you will notice, there are 17 recruits in this picture and only 16 of them are committed to Baylor.
So who is the mystery recruit?
Charles Oliver On Campus
The Bears welcomed a HUGE surprise visitor this weekend.
Charles Oliver is a Scout300 CB who is currently committed to Texas A&M. With Xavien Howard declaring for the NFL Draft, Oliver is the type of player that could come in and compete for playing time.
Those close to Oliver believe that the Bears are certainly in the picture to flip the talented CB and getting him on campus confirms that. Oliver has a great repor with Coach Dishman and there is a high probability the Bears could earn his commitment after a visit that has been strong so far.
We will continue to monitor this, but the Bears could earn a huge flip and commitment for an in-state rival.
Latest On A TOP JUCO Prospect
Malcolm Pridgeon is one of the TOP JUCO prospects in the country uncommitted. Pridgeon was once committed to Florida and opened his recruitment back up this past summer.
The Nassau JC prospect took an official to Baylor last summer and the Bears have continued to recruit the Scout 5* JUCO prospect.
A source close to the talent lineman said that Baylor was "absolutely" in the mix. Some believe that the Bears are a leader for Pridgeon's services, however it is not known when he plans to sign. National Signing Day is February 3rd and it would be a good bet that Pridgeon signs then, but it is not uncommon for some JUCO prospects to sign later in the spring.
We will monitor this siutation closely and bring you the latest when we know it. Pridgeon would immediately fill the position left by Spencer Drango.
Should Baylor Worry About Kameron Martin?
As I'm sure everyone saw, Kameron was visited by Texas RB Coach Tommie Robinson. Robinson was able to speak with Kameron's mom and schedule an in-home visit with the longtime Baylor commit.
Right now, Texas is really pushing the playing time card. They are selling the fact that Kameron would be perfect in their new offense and give them a speed guy that they don't have on campus right now. Honestly it isn't a bad strategy seeing as Baylor has 4 RBs coming back next year and 2 were only RSFR this past season.
My take: I wouldn't take any of this seriously. I do believe there is a chance Kameron takes an OV to Texas, but I would be beyond shocked if he flipped his commitment. Baylor has stayed loyal and made it very clear that Kameron was the only RB they were taking. The other thing here is Kamerons mom loves Baylor. She is excited about him going to Baylor.
Does Baylor Really Have A Shot At Brandon Jones?
Coach Art Briles, Phil Bennett and Chris Dishman paid a visit to Scout 5* and #1 ranked Safety prospect Brandon Jones on Thursday evening. It was a very important visit for the Bears, as they continue to work to gain ground on the talent prospect.
Sources say that the visit went about as well as it could have gone for Baylor.
From the beginning, no one has given the Bears a chance in this race, however, it is believed that Baylor is a true darkhorse and might have even jumped in to a tie with the Longhorns and Aggies, who are considered the favorite.
Jones is scheduled to visit Baylor on the 29th, so it will be very important for Baylor to close the deal.
I have contended before that if Baylor can get him on campus, he will be a Bear, and after talking with some people, I believe that will be the case. Now Baylor just has to get him campus. That will be the toughest thing in those whole ordeal.
In the end it is a little frustrating to see him at least entertaining the idea of Texas, from a fan perspective, but I do believe it is just for show and there shouldn't be anything taken from this. IF things change, you will be the first to know, but I anticipate him being a priority during his official this weekend. Look for that to solidify his commitment.
