As things move in to the spring evaluation period, BearsIllustrated looks at prospects that could become a part of the 2017 Baylor recruiting class.
With 6 commitments on board, Baylor is looking to fill at least 12 - 14 more spots. This will be small class, so as things clear up, it becomes clearer the prospects and positions that Baylor is keying on.
Over the next several days, BearsIllustrated will look at individual players and what they could bring to the table. These are in no particular order.
The Skinny: Calloway is one of the more pure corners in the country. Calloway is currently ranked as the #1 CB in Texas, by Scout.com, and sits as the #68 overall recruit in the Scout 300. Calloway does lack the size of a prototypical corner, but plays much bigger than his listed height. His quickness and strength certainly make up for lack of height. Right now, Calloway has several P5 offers, but signs seem to point to him staying in state.
Scout.com's Breakdown: Calloway has some very unique skills. He carries himself with confidence and plays the game with an edge at the position, which I love and you do need some of that swagger when pitted against elite receivers. He is able to stay in a receivers hip pocket and will come up and lay a big hit. He is very quick in and out of his breaks and his burst and change of direction are at the top of the charts. He shows a nose for the football, as seen in his special teams plays where he is a kick blocking specialist. -GP
Baylor's Chances: Hot. Baylor is right in the thick of it for Calloway. Calloway has visited the Baylor campus several times and has a great relationship with the staff. It has long been rumored that Baylor was in the lead for the talented corner, but even if that isn't the case, Baylor should be considered a favorite to land Calloway. It's not likely that Calloway commits until before the season, but I think the Bears have a great shot, here, to land one of the top corners in the country.
