Guy Morriss in Houston for Football Kick-off

It was almost a "who's who" among college football legends as both Les Koenning, fresh from his recent induction into the Texas Football Hall of Fame and "The Legend" himself, Dave Campbell were both present to hear Baylor Head Football Coach Guy Morris address the Baylor faithful at the annual kick-off luncheon. The event was held at the Westin Oaks in the Galleria in Houston. Approximately 400 were there as the event was well attended.

Coach Morriss arrived at about 12:50 p.m. He and his entourage would have gotten there sooner, but about the time the plane was set to take off from the runway, the pilot had an announcement to make.

Now keep in mind that a warning had already been given earlier in the day that due to inclement weather in the Houston area, they might not get to go at all.

The pilot simply asked if they wanted the good news or the bad news, first. Well, the good news was that the weather in Houston has changed and there will be no problem with getting Coach down to his banquet. However, we can't take off right now because President Bush is landing.

Coach Morriss joked at his banquet that they told Air Force One they had a meeting to catch and to just circle Waco once, but they were having none of it.

Coach Morriss discussed the progress made by the football program since the arrival of the new staff and gave the hopeful audience not only reasons for concern, but some guarded optimism as well.

After a lengthy discussion, the floor was opened up to questions as Coach Morriss gave some specific answers to some very specific questions. All in all, he is very pleased with the attitudes expressed by the team, impressed with the way they have bought into their program, and very satisified with the progress they have made in such a short time.
