We take a look at 5 keys that could secure a Baylor win on Saturday

After two weeks off, sandwiched around a game against Kansas, the Bears are the healthiest and freshest they've been. Their reward is a brutal stretch of games to close out the Big 12 season, which starts this Saturday against the Texas Longhorns. There is no love lost between these two programs and after a crazy offseason, there will be a ton of emotion in this game.

As we continue our game preview series, we take a look at 5 keys to the game versus the Texas Longhorns.

  1. Start Fast. The Longhorns are reeling and will be looking to good things to happen early against Baylor. The Bears need to combat this by starting fast and jumping on the Longhorns early. I don't like to say that players quit, but if the Bears jump out early, then the game could get out of hand very quickly. This young team has had to endure rumors surrounding their coach and have had to deal with off and on the field issues regarding their play. If Baylor can jump out 14-0, watch out.

  2. Focus. This is a huge key for Saturday. Everyone knows about what happened this offseason and the Longhorns media was at the forefront. Baylor is out for blood in this game, but they can't let the emotions of everything overtake them. It is important that the Bears just play football.

  3. Win the line of scrimmage. With Bravvion Roy out, the Bears will be even more thin along the defensive line. Coach Phil Bennett may deploy a 4 man look to help offset the running game of Texas, so it will be important for the defensive line to at least match the physicality of the UT offensive line. On offense, the Bears will be battling against a defensive line full of young talent. Though the young players are talented, they are very raw. It will be important for the ground game to get going and for the Bears to be successful running the ball.

  4. Shock Linwood. Baylor will need another huge game from him. Linwood single-handedly won the game for the Bears in Ames, Iowa. He will need to have another effort like that for the Bears to come out of Austin with a win.

  5. Stay Strong On Defense. This will be the first big challenge for this defensive unit, but they are very familiar with this offense. Baylor has one of the top defenses in the Country, but some will say it has been hardly challenged. They will get to prove themselves this Saturday. It will be important for the defense to bend but not break. The running game will be a key for this defense and it will be important to get pressure on Shane Buechelle. On the backend, the corners will need to stay in their assignments and not get beat deep. This game will be an interesting chess match between Sterlin Gilbert and Phil Bennett. Phil will have the upper hand.
