Behind 16 points from Al Freeman and a near double double from junior transfer Manu Lecomte in his first start for the Bears, Baylor defeated Oral Roberts 76-61. Baylor dominated behind the arc, making 10-26 shots compared to just 3 makes for the Golden Eagles.

Four Bears scored in double figures, with Ish Wainwright and Jo Laul-Acuil joining Freeman and Lecomte. With junior post Jonathan Motley suspended for the game, Acuil made his first career appearance and start for the Baylor Bears.  Acuil was held out last year due to medical issues, but made his presence felt in the season opener leading the Bears with 9 rebounds and recording 4 blocks. He even added two 3-pointers from the top of the key, one of 5 Bears to make a 3-point field goal.

With new faces all over the roster, 4 Bears made their first appearances for Baylor with Lecomte and Acuil starting and redshirt freshman Wendell Mitchell playing 14 minutes off the bench.  Sophomore walk-on Jonathan Davis was the 4th newcomer to appear for the Bears.

The Bears never trailed, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on Jo Acuil's jumper, and getting the lead for good on a Manu Lecomte 3-pointer to put them up 5-2.  The Golden Eagles would hang tough, keeping the game within a single digit defecit for most of the first half, before the Bears took a 7-point lead to halftime.

Baylor's lead would fall to 6 early in the second half, but Baylor would continue to push the lead back up to double digits each time Oral Roberts made a push. Emmanuel Nzekwesi led the Golden Eagles with 15 points, their only player in double figure scoring, though three other starters scored 8 or 9 points.

The Bears will look to start the season 2-0 as they host Top-10 ranked Oregon Tuesday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.
