In a four-year varsity career for Abilene High School in Texas Class 6A, Smith 4,917 yards from scrimmage and 59 total touchdowns. Smith ran for 4,653 yards and 57 touchdowns, while catching 31 passes for 264 yards and two TD's.
2016: As a senior, Smith ran for 1,927 yards and 34 touchdowns on 8.2 yards per carry. He also caught eight passes for 79 yards and a touchdown to give him 2,006 yards from scrimmage and 35 touchdowns as he led Abilene High to an 11-2 record and a Texas Class 6A Division II third-round playoff appearance.
2015: Smith's junior season saw him run for 1,525 yards and 13 touchdowns, in addition to catching nine passes for 118 yards.
2014: As a sophomore, Smith enjoyed a breakout season with 914 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, while catching 10 passes for 67 yards and one score.
