Looking back at a very successful week for Baylor Athletics

Baylor Athletics had an extremely successful week and we recap that, including some new offers on the Baylor Football front.

This past weekend, there were several Baylor sports teams in action and it ended in what was likely the most successful weekend in Baylor Athletics history. We look back at the special moments and also look at some new offers for Coach Matt Rhule and the Baylor Football staff.

How Sweet It is!

This weekend, the Baylor Baseball Bears took their undefeated 9-0 record to Houston, TX, to battle in the Shriners Collegiate Classic at Minute Maid Park. The 6-team tournament combined 3 teams each from the SEC and Big 12. Included were #20 Ole' Miss, #11 Texas A&M, #6 Texas Tech, #7 LSU and #1 TCU. The Bears were unranked going into the weekend and were looking to be competitive against some of the top competition in the country. The Bears made a statement.

On Friday, the Bears took on a young, but talented, Ole' Miss team. Nick Lewis took the bump for Baylor and had one of the most impressive outings, by a collegiate pitcher, this season. Lewis went 7 innings and gave up 2 hits while striking out 9 Ole' Miss hitters.

On Saturday, the Bears arguably the top pitcher in college baseball, in Jared Poche, The talented lefty gave up 2 hits and struck out 5 Bears. Baylor hung tough for 6 innings, but LSU used a 2 run 6th to bust open an otherwise good outing by pitcher, Montana Parsons.

On Sunday, the Bears faced old rival Texas A&M as the last game of the weekend. It did not disappoint. The Bears, trailing 3-1 heading into the 9th, used patience and a BOMB by Tucker Cascadden to send the Aggies to heartache for the second night in a row. With the bases loaded, Cascadden roped a 1-0 pitch into the crawford boxes for a two out walk-off Grand Slam, to end the weekend and earn the Bear 2 wins over ranked SEC opponents. Below is the call by Baylor PxP announcer, Derek Smith. Enjoy!

Baylor Softball Makes A Statement

The Lady Bears are riding a wave of success right now, after an impressive showing at this weekends Judi Garman Classic at Anderson Family Field. A who's who of top collegiate softball teams filled the tournament and the Bears made a big statement beating 4 top 25 ranked opponents in a row. The Lady Bears beat perennial powers Arizona State, Michigan, Washington and UCLA.

Fast Pitch News had this to say about the Lady Bears success: "Baylor softball has arrived and is ready to compete this season."

Here is the complete story on this past weekends softball action: FastPitch News

Lady Bears Face West Virginia in Big 12 Tournament Final

The Baylor Lady Bears continued their dominance in this tournament, with two fairly comfortable wins over the weekend. The Lady Bears made quick work of Texas Tech on Saturday and followed that up with a hard fought win over a scrappy Kansas State team. Nina Davis and Alexis Prince, both seniors for the Lady Bears, have been dominate this weekend.

A slight upset over the weekend, sets up an unlikely final, as West Virginia, the #6 seed, upset #2 seed Texas to earn a third chance at the Lady Bears.

Baylor will play West Virginia tonight at 8 pm on FS1 from Cheseapeke Arena in Oklahoma City.

Baylor Closes out Big 12 Season with Two Big Wins

Despite losing Manu Lecomte to an ankle injury, the Bears had two impressive wins this past week as they defeated West Virginia and Texas.

West Virginia came in to Waco expecting a win, but Baylor rallied late and closed the game on a 30-9 run to run away from the Mountaineers and earn a very gutsy win.

On Saturday, the Bears faced a lifeless Texas team and ended one of their worst seasons in some time, with a double digit win in Austin. The Bears finished tied for 2nd, their highest even finish, and was 12-6 overall in the Big 12.

The Bears will head to Kansas City this week to compete in the Big 12 tournament and will open as a 3 seed and face Kansas St on Thursday at 8 pm on ESPNU.
