Coppell (Tex.) High School’s Jonathan McGill made his first visit to Bear Country earlier today. The 5-foot-11, class of 2019 safety got to admire all that Baylor has to offer. He took a tour of Baylor’s campus, dining halls, athletic facilities, and the Beauchamp Athletic Nutrition Center that his father really enjoyed.
“Baylor is a great place,” said McGill. “My parents were really impressed, and I was really impressed.”
Before McGill’s visit today he has been speaking with Director of Player Personnel, Evan Cooper. Today he made contact with defensive backs coach, Francis Brown, as well as Coach Joey McGuire who McGill says is best friends with Coppell’s athletic director, Joe McBride.
“I’ll probably be talking to Coach McGuire the most in the future,” said McGill.
McGill currently holds two offers from SMU and Nevada although he still has some schools he’s looking to hear from.
“I’m hoping to get an offer from Texas, Texas A&M, and TCU,” McGill said. “Those would be my top schools in Texas.”
McGill stressed that staying in state would be ideal but definitely isn’t a deal breaker.
“I’m just trying to go anywhere that I can make an early impact,” said McGill. “I’m looking to stay in Texas, but obviously if a school calls me and tells me that I can make an early impact, I’ll take that into consideration.”
When asked if he is keeping Baylor on his radar he said he’d be back.
“I’ll definitely be back,” McGill said. “I’ll probably go to a spring practice or a game this season.”
Baylor is currently pursuing McGill as a defensive back, which McGill currently plays along with Wide Receiver.
“I can play anywhere on the field,” said McGill. “Anywhere I can make an impact I’m happy with.”
