The Baylor Bears continued to build on their recent success on the recruiting trail Wednesday night, securing the verbal pledge of 3-star Rayburn High School athlete Stanley Hackett. More than likely a future running back for the Bears, Hackett was a one-time Texas Tech commit before withdrawing his verbal in mid-January. The Bears offered in early February and were reportedly in the lead for his services.
Hackett chose the Bears over offers from UCLA, Texas Tech, Tulsa, and UTSA along with reported interest from Texas, Texas A&M and Houston. He has been a very productive player for Rayburn High School, located in Pasadena, TX which is just south of Houston. In three varsity seasons, Hackett has gained 3,550 yards rushing and still has his senior campaign to play.
Similar to 2017 signee Jon Lovett, in style and body-type, Hackett is 6-foot-3 and 193 pounds. Looking at times more like an outside receiver, Hackett has natural feel for the position and is an instinctive runner.
He is the 4th ranked athlete in the state of Texas, and was ranked as the 82nd best recruit in the state by Scout.com. He is the fourth Baylor Bear in the Texas-100, joining Josh Fleeks, Kalon Barnes and Joshua Landry. Hackett is the Bears 13th commitment for the 2018 class, the most this year in the Big 12.
The Bears are expected to take possibly one more running back in the 2018 class, with four star Keontay Ingram being the highest rated possibility. Ta'Zhawn Henry, Asa Martin, and Craig Williams are also targets with Baylor offers.
