Baseball Green-Gold Game coming this Saturday

In the annual rite of passage, the newcomers to the Baylor Baseball program will square off against the returning veterans in the Green-Gold Game Saturday at the Baylor Ballpark. Game time is 7 pm after the football game against the Cornhuskers.

The game should prove interesting as the incoming class of recruits is perhaps the strongest of Smith's tenure in Waco. The newcomers are especially strong on the mound with Trey Taylor, Sean Walker, Abe Woody and Ryan Bennett.

Catcher Josh Ford has been putting holes in the outfield wall, when he actually doesn't hit it out. Mike Griffin, Paul Witt and Eric Errante can all hit for power and average.

The vets are at a significant disadvantage on the mound as Coach Smith has kept Steven White, Justin Taylor, Paul Thorp and Zane Carlson out of Fall Ball. Smith's reasoning is that he knows what those four bring to the table and not playing them will allow other players more time to prove themselves.

However, Jared Theodorakos is back from off-season knee surgery much lighter and with a new pitch. He's been throwing well and looks to be a key contributor. Kyle Edens is also back and throwing harder than ever.

The vets also have some pop in their bats. Outfielders Chris Durbin and David Murphy both look stronger and more mature. Both are swinging a hot stick. Mike Huggins returns after a great summer in the Cape Cod League.

It should be an interesting and entertaining matchup - 7 pm this Saturday at the Baylor Ballpark
