Baylor is glad to get home after a tough week going up against perennial powerhouses Oklahoma and the University of Texas on the road. They will try to forget that week and focus on the recent home success.
Curtis Jerrells, last week's Big 12 rookie of the week, has scored double figures in 5 of the last 6 games, and was absolutely on fire last time the Bears suited up at home dropping 28 points on Missouri. He is joined by Aaron Bruce as the only other Bear to average in double figures.
A&M also has two players that average double figures in points, sophomore post Joseph Jones and junior guard Acie Law. A&M had a similar road test a few weeks ago when it played at Oklahoma followed by a game at Texas; the Aggies fared much better although they still lost only losing by a combined 21 points – compared to Baylor losing by a combined 55.
The last time these two teams met up, the Aggies won 72-70 after a last second 3 point prayer was answered for Bruce to make it a 2 point game. It appeared the Bears were trying to induce Jones into trying to go pro after this year as he dominated scoring 29 points and grabbing 10 boards. The Bears were led by Jerrells and Bruce, who each scored 18 on the night. However, the Bears never could stop Jones who shot 13 for 19 from the floor and provided a bucket anytime A&M needed it.
The Bears hope to see a good crowd for this weekend home game – and with two straight home victories it appears a win is within reach. If the Bears can slow Jones a bit, they will have a good chance to get their third victory of the season.
