The state of Texas always has it share of great offensive linemen, and John Jones will certainly be one of the best this year. Jones broke into the starting line-up at left tackle last season and never looked back enjoying an outstanding season.
"I think I had a great year last season," said Jones. "I think my sophomore year on JV, I really grew up and that year helped me a lot. I used what I learned that year last season and it paid off for me. I think I run and pass block pretty well and I improved every game."
Jones can bench 285 pounds, squats 425 and he has a 24-inch vertical jump. Jones lettered in basketball and he is on the powerlifting team. He went to the summer camp in Tulsa a year ago and to the Scout Combine Camp in Waco this spring.
Jones has been offered by Houston, Kansas State and Baylor thus far with several other programs indicating they are close to offering.
"I am going to like the schools that have offered me, and I am real high on Texas A&M and Oklahoma," said Jones. "I like Oklahoma a lot and they have been sending me letters. I got invited to their spring game and I went up there for that. I was impressed with their facilities and I really liked the campus. Everything seemed close to together on campus and everything was close to get to."
Does Jones have a favorite at this point?
"I would have to say Baylor at this point," said Jones. "I think you can get a good education at Baylor and I think it is a school where I can play early. I am not close to a commitment. I am wide open. I am just going to wait a little bit and see what happens."
