"I believe that I have the power to overpower tackles, and I believe I have the speed to speed rush the passer. I think a lot when I am on the field, I don't over-persue. I think my field smarts is my biggest strength." That is a quote from one of the newest Baylor Bears Chris Buford, DE, Arlington Bowie.
Chris Buford plans on arriving to the Baylor University campus during Summer Session II, move into housing around July 5th, and start classes July 6th. With his senior year winding down, this is what Buford had to say about his future plans:
"They (Baylor) gave me a workout booklet with three phases in it. It's about right what I imagined. Back when I was a junior, there was a senior who had a book from Georgia Tech who had a book, and I was working out with him with that. The Baylor book is kind of the same."
"As far as weight, they haven't specified an exact weight. I lost some weight going into basketball, but I guess around the range of 245 to 255."
Buford continued to explain why he chose Baylor.
"I liked the location, and I liked the people that were in Waco, Texas."
"I went to the spring game a couple of weeks ago. It was good, there are some pretty good recruits coming in, and we should be a pretty tough team there."
Buford has a couple of thoughts on one of his future teammates.
"There is another Baylor player who signed from Bowie. He is one of my best friends, Dominique Criss. We will probably be rooming together. I know of the other guys, I have played against some of the other guys, but I haven't sat down and talked one on one to get to know them yet."
Buford on his academic future:
"I am flip-flopping. At first I was thinking kinesiology, but I may go liberal arts, so if I change my major, I will have credits that could still apply to my new major."
When asked about nicknames, Chris Buford was quick to respond.
"Some of the guys, they call me 'Buff' because my last name is Buford, and they tell me I am swollen, but I don't know. Some other guys, they call me 'Butta', like b-u-t-t-a, because I am real light skinned."
Chris Buford should be familiar with the basic scheme of Baylor's defense because Arlington Bowie ran the 4-2-5 defense as well. As far as playing against the new offense installed at Baylor, Buford explains that he is familiar with it.
"The spread offense, almost every school in Texas runs the spread offense."
Buford wanted to make one last comment to Baylor fans before he arrived on campus:
"Jump on the bandwagon now because it is about to roll."
