Baylor Receives 3rd Commitment for '07 Class

Guy Morriss and the Baylor coaching staff are off to a nice start with the '07 class, taking advantage of the growing trend of kids committing early. Lonnie Edwards, the #41 ranked player in Texas, recently became the Bears 3rd Commit for this class.

The Baylor Bears received their 3rd commitment of the '07 class from Lonnie Edwards.

At 6-5/315, Lonnie Edwards was an all-district selection as a sophomore and junior, as well as a second team all-state selection as a junior. Holding offers from Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Mississippi, and Purdue, Edwards chose Baylor.

"We went to the Baylor spring game last week and had a pretty good time over there," Edwards said.

Edwards is the #41 ranked player in Texas according to, and his pledge to Baylor almost guarentees to get the ball rolling a bit faster as far as recruiting goes.

"He's a very physical player, I think that is definitely his best attribute," Brownsboro head coach John Settle said. "He's just as strong as he can be and he isn't soft at all. He's just got the perfect mentality for an offensive lineman."

As for what position he'll play on the next level Settle says his star player is capable of playing most anywhere on the line.

"It really just depends on who you talk to. I think he might make a really guard because he is so physical and he moves really well. Then I know there are a lot of schools that like him at tackle, he certainly has the size."

As to his commitment to Baylor, Edwards' high school coach mentioned, "The Baylor fans will be very happy with Lonnie. He is a great kid. He works hard and I really believe that he will fit in great with Coach Morris and the Baylor staff."

With the excellent job Coach Morriss is doing in recruiting high-quality offensive linemen, look for some high profile quarterbacks to take a stronger look at the program in the near future.
