BU Downs ASU 3-2; Rice Up Next

The Baylor Bears defeated the Arizona State University Sun Devils, 3-2 after bad weather postponed the game from last night. Steve Smith's squad will now face the Rice Owls who are seeded #1 in the bracket.

Cory VanAllen started things off last night, but bad weather forced the game to be played on Saturday afternoon. Ryan LaMotta took over in the second inning and pitched efficently and effectively as he earned the victory.br>
Catcher Zach Dillon led the way for the Bears, going 2-4 with 2 runs batted in. Designated Hitter Matt Sodolak went 1-3 driving in the Bears' other run.

The Bears committed two errors in the game, one of which caused the Baylor faithful to hold their breath. With a 3-1 lead, with runners on first and second and one out, LaMotta got Seth Dhaenens to hit a ground ball to 3rd base. What should have probably been a game-ending double play almost proved catastrophic as all runners were safe on a throwing error made by Baylor 3rd baseman Drew Bias. With the base loaded ASU pinch-hitter Ryan Sontag hit a sacrifice fly to cut the Baylor lead to 3-2. Ryan LaMotta stayed cool under pressure as he struck out Willy Fox to close out the game.

The Baylor Bears will next face Rice, who defeated Prairie View A&M in their first game.
