Bears Recruiting California Athlete

Previously, Baylor went out and got David Gettis, a star wide receiver out of Dorsey High School in California. The Bears coaching staff is hitting the area hard again. One of California's finest prep athletes is interested in Baylor. See what he has to say about Baylor and more at

Anthony Wright is one of those players that does it all. Playing both sides of the ball, and being recruited as a safety and a runningback for Baylor, Wright is very interested in what the Bears have to offer.

It has been reported that Wright rushed for 1,020 yds on 100 carries (10.2 yards per carry) and 5 TDs and received 1st Team All Moore League honors as a running back. Anthony also excels on defense as a safety where he had 51 tackles and 4 interceptions. Also runs the 100m, 200m, 300m Hurdles, and long jumps during track season. So what did Anthony Wright have to say?

" I have offers from Baylor, Nebraska, San Diego State, Nevada, UNLV, Colorado, and Colorado State."

The 6-0/190 Wright explains that he has not made a list of favorites right now and that he is open to any college. Wright also explains that location will not be a factor in his recruitment.

"I am looking to go to a place I have a chance to play."

"Coach Jackson is recruiting me from Baylor. He's tight, I like him. He's more offense oriented, and he talks a good game. He's a good person."

"I haven't visited yet, but I might go on a recruiting trip out there. I haven't set it up or anything."

"I'm a playmaker. Making plays, and making big plays is my strength. I step up to the challenge."

So with his ability to run track successfully, will that be a factor in his decision?

"Yeah, just a little bit. I know Baylor and they got a tight University in track."

Anthony Wright is always looking to make the big play. On offense he is looking to score everytime he touches the ball. On defense, as a balanced safety, Wright admits he gets more physical, and has the ability to make a good play on the ball.

"I compare myself to Clinton Portis, a blend of power and speeed. On defense, Sean Taylor."

The Bears are hoping that Anthony Wright sees the same thing that Scout All-American David Gettis saw in Baylor. With a decision likely to come pretty soon, as always will keep you close to the action.
