John Jones Baylor Visit: Did he commit?

Cedar Hill has been a target school for the Baylor coaching staff this recruiting season, and it has paid off with 2 commitments so far. Is John Jones ready to make it number 3? Come read about it at

Cedar Hill linebacker Chris Francis and wide receiver Romie Blaylock have already given their commitments to come play for Coach Guy Morriss at Baylor University in the Fall. With rumors swirling that John Jones might be the third player to commit to the Bears from Cedar Hill, we caught up with Jones to get the latest.

Jones was fresh off a visit to Baylor's campus this weekend, where he and his mom "liked it a lot." Jones added "we saw all the school buildings and every little thing, including the bear – it was real nice." He also said his "tour guides" were Coach Morriss and Coach McGriff.

So did Jones offer his commitment to Baylor? No. Not yet. He now is planning on waiting until the end of the summer before he commits, to give him time to evaluate all his options.

This is the first time Jones has not played basketball, and so it has given him extra time to focus on football. "I have been doing weight training, getting stronger, working on foot work, really preparing for my senior year in football. I feel like the improvements are noticeable," Jones said.

The rest of the summer, Jones plans on attending camps at TCU and SMU. "My top 3 schools right now are Baylor, Arkansas, and Houston" said Jones.

One of the reasons he likes Baylor is academics. "Baylor's good academics shows that they care." Jones feels he is an adequate student, but realizes he needs more discipline in the classroom - and thinks Baylor might be where he gets that.

What about the chance to play with his good friends and high school teammates? "It would be cool but you can't go to a college just because your friends are going there. The decision has to be right for me."
