Ryan Douglass: Tells It Like It Is

Ryan Douglass was able to showcase his talent at the Scout.com combine. He not only impressed scouts and recruiting analysts with his athletic ability, he also impressed with his character and attitude. BearsIllustrated.com caught up with Douglass after his trip to Baylor for a mini-camp to get his thoughts on recruiting, his ability, and where Baylor stands. Read more inside.

Ryan Douglass is a 'Yes, sir; No sir' young man. Off the field his demeanor and character can't help but be noticed. On the field, Douglass flips the switch. The 6-3 220 pound defensive end from Leander, Texas is a pass-rushing run-stopper with a great nose for finding the ball.

Leander, Texas is north of Austin close to Round Rock. It is also where Ryan Douglass is a team leader on his high school football team.

"As a junior last year, I led by example. As a junior, I considered myself a leader, not verbally, but just on the field. As a senior, I will be a leader on the field, but I also will lead my team by motivation and by example."

Douglass, who also played nose tackle last year, reports a max 295 bench and a 450 squat. Being invited to the Scout.com combine is an honor for any high school football player, and Douglass was one of the chosen few.

"I think I did okay. I could have done a lot better. I did better at the mini-camp."

At the Scout.com combine, Douglass was timed at a 4.9 40, 4.31 short shuttle, a vertical jum of 29.5", the 3-cone drill at 7.38 and an 8-8 broad jump. He performed better in his speed and agility at Baylor's mini-camp.

"I have been working really hard. We have a program at our school that I do. I am staying active, and I play a lot of basketball at the YMCA over the summer."

The results were evident as Douglass proved better on his forty time recording a 4.78 forty a couple of weeks ago.

Douglass currently holds offers from 3 Big 12 schools: Baylor, Missouri, and Oklahoma State Univeristy. Does Douglass have a leader?

"Out of the schools that have offered, Baylor is my favorite. It is close to home. My mom would be able to come watch the games."

Douglass does mention that another Big 12 school has been giving him serious interest. That school is Texas A&M.

"A&M has been showing me a lot of interest. Baylor and A&M would be my top 2 schools. I know some people at A&M."

Douglass explains that if Texas A&M offers him a scholarship he would likely choose to accept it, and head to College Station.

"I plan on making a decision when 2-a-days start. If not then after the football season is over. If Texas A&M hasn't offered at the beginning of the season, I will probably commit to Baylor."

While his college decision may not be set, his team and personal goals are already in place.

"The team goal is to win district. To be district champs. My personal goal is to be all-state."

Last year, Douglass received many awards including but not limited to 1st Team All-District, and 2nd Team Central-Texas.

Douglass has high hopes for the upcoming season.

"We got a bunch of good players coming back. We have 3 key players returning who all have Division 1 offers. We have 4 who were named 1st team all-district."

With Ryan Douglass' decision coming soon, keep it tuned in to BearsIllustrated.com for all of the latest on Baylor Bears recruiting and information.
