Where Does V.J. McElroy Stand?

His Uvalde high school team is 4-2 and undefeated in district play. Recently, he was named the 4A player of the week for the state of Texas after compiling over 200 yards and 5 touchdowns in a single game. BearsIllustrated.com caught up with Baylor legacy and Baylor Bear commit V.J. McElroy to see where he stands.

"I am still getting letters from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and SMU, but I am going to Baylor. I like the coaches and I think things are coming along."

Those are the words of Baylor commit V.J. McElroy.

The 5' 11" 180 McElroy attended the Baylor Bears' season opener, a loss to TCU, and had this to say about what he saw.

"They are definitely improving. You can definitely see that. Their defense is strong. The offense is kind of struggling, but that's understandable with this being the first year running this offense. You can tell that they are getting better."

With his plan to attend Baylor firmly in place, the question remained exactly where he would be playing on the field. McElroy put all those questions to rest.

"It sounds like they want me to play rover and return. Right now, I play offense. I played both ways my sophomore year. I think I have a pretty good feel for it. After football is over, I am just going to hit a lot of drills and get ready for playing defense and covering guys. I am going to have to blitz some, and that is going to be different."

With top-end speed and a great talent for the game, McElroy explains his reasons for choosing Baylor.

"Baylor seems to fit me well. The place where I will be playing seems to fit well, too. I like the coaches a lot. Looking at their games, before Texas, they had a really good chance to win, and they should have, but the little mistakes and turnovers on offense did it."

McElroy looks forward to playing at Baylor University, but right now is focused on leading his Uvalde team to state; one game at a time.
