"Baylor Is the Place For Me"

At one time Beaumont Westbrook cornerback Mike Williams was a Baylor commit. A coaching change at Baylor led him to open his recruitment back up leading to a commitment to Boise State. After a recent trip to Waco, Texas and to the campus of Baylor University, Williams is a Baylor Bear once again.

Williams is excited about what he sees from Baylor's new ocahing staff, one that includes defensive coordinator, Brian Norwood.

"Coach Norwood got me up on a visit. It just seemed like it was God's plan because after Boise State, I wasn't planning on taking another visit. But I felt really comfortable with Coach Norwood, and he is a coach I can play for without a shadow of a doubt."

This was the nation's 55th best cornerback first chance to sit down with Baylor's new head coach Art Briles as well.

"Just being in his presence I felt really comfortable. He is a really good coach, but more importantly, a really good person. I just have so much confidence in the coaches at Baylor. If they tell me to run through a brick wall, I would do it for these coaches."

While the Baylor coaching staff definitely made an impression on Williams, he also enjoys the fact that he will likely get to spend the next few years with a current Westbrook teammate and Baylor commitment.

"Shane [McCardell] and I are real close, and we have been friends for a long time. To experience this with a friend is something that I am looking forward to. We are going to be roommates, and it is going to give each of us an extra sense of security."

Williams explains that no matter what the circumstance, Baylor has always been in his heart.

"My heart has always been in Waco. My grandfather, who has passed away, was my everything. He took me on my first recruiting trip at Baylor. We bonded, and I loved the school and the city of Waco."

The talented cornerback provides that he feels very comfortable in the 4-3 defense that Baylor will turn to next season, adding that he also looks forward to the possibility of returning kicks. Williams also states that he is ready to turn the program around.

"I am just ready to really turn this thing around. I felt the electricity with Coach Briles, Coach McLeod, Coach Norwood, and all the coaches. Baylor is going to be an up and coming program. I have the chance to be a legend at Baylor, a chance to bring back tradition, a chance to turnaround a 3-9 program, and to get back to bowl games."

With a switch in verbals over the past season, is Williams planning on taking any more visits?

"Baylor University is for me. Point blank, no questions asked. It's done."
