At 6-4 315, this All-State, 3-time all district selection, and offensive MVP for one All-American game can somewhat be considered a diamond in the rough. He holds offers from several schools, including but not limited to, Missiissippi State, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, and Baylor. He has taken visits to Mississippi State and Arkansas State, and on Monday will head to Waco, Texas to visit the Baylor campus. He recently cancelled his visit to Louisiana Tech.

While Smith is currently committed to Mississippi State, he is headed to Baylor to see what the Baylor Bears coaching staff has to offer.

"I am going there to observe, really. It is a long way from home, so there are going to have to be a lot of things that I like."

Smith, who provides that a big reason for his commitment to Mississippi State is the fact that the campus is only twenty minutes from his house, explains that he is fully qualified academically.

"Mississippi State is where I want to be. I have a good relationship with all the coaches. They are really nice, but I know when it comes down to football, it's all business."

Smith explained that he and current Baylor commit, Shane McCardell, a defensive end from Beaumont Westbrook, had the opportunity to discuss a lot about the recruiting process when McCardell visited the Mississippi State campus this past weekend. According to Smith, McCardell changed his commitment to the Bulldogs.
