Baylor Wraps Up Spring

The Baylor Bears wrapped up spring workouts with a spring scrimmage on the field of Floyd Casey Stadium.

Perhaps Jay Finley, the Baylor Bears sophomore running back, decided he was going to make plays. Maybe he just took advantage of the plays designed for him. Whatever the case may be, Finley showcased his talents during the final spring scrimmage of the season. The talented tailback rushed for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns to help move the Bears offense all afternoon.

Adding to the rushing numbers was often overlooked senior running back Jacoby Jones who carried the ball 12 times for 53 yards. All in all the Baylor Bears rushed for over 200 yards on 60 carries.

The quarterback situation did not become clearer after the xcrimmage as all the Baylor quarterbacks had good moments. Senior quarterback Kirby Freeman started with the first team and completed 7 of 13 for 75 yards. He threw one interception and no touchdowns. Last year's starter, Blake Szymanski, tossed the ball well completing 9 of 13 for 102 yards and one touchdown and no interceptions. However, the offense seemed to play in a higher gear when true freshman quarterback Robert Griffin was behind center. Griffin completed 5 of 9 for 66 yards, also adding 30 yards rushing on 5 carries.

Joe Bennett, senior wide receiver, led all receivers with 5 catches and 89 yards and a score, while Justin Akers hauled in 4 catches for 46 yards.

While the Bears' final spring workout was more of a controlled scrimmage than a game, the fans that attended were able to see glimpses of what is in store for the upcoming season. Perhaps more importantly, there were no injuries during the scrimmage.
