According to Baylor Head Football Coach Art Briles, Wednesday's practice was "pretty festive."
"After three days straight, and five out of the last six days, I thought the guys came out and worked hard. We will rest them up a little bit and have a good weight session tomorrow, and do it again Friday, and have a little scrimmage Saturday morning," said Briles.
Wednesday marked the team's first practice in full pads, and the players were no doubt eager to start hitting. Coaches had to remind the players that it is still early in the season.
"That is good. You'd rather have to say, ‘Whoa', than, ‘Go,'", says Briles.
Because of the rain in Waco earlier in the day, Briles and his staff decided to use the synthetic turf fields of Floyd Casey Stadium rather than ripping up the grass practice fields.
In a season already filled with players making the switch to other positions, Coach Briles talked a bit about how Ray Sims has made the transition from safety to running back.
"He has done real well. Ray is an athlete. He is a heady player, so he understands the game. He is a good football player."
While depth may be an issue at certain positions, it appears that the wide receiver position is filled with talent up and down the depth chart. "I think the depth is pretty good," says Briles. "T.J. [Scranton] is progressing nicely, and we will probably get Ernest [Smith] back next week. So we will be a good, solid two deep there."
Briles explained that he and his team understand the importance of Fall camp. "In Fall camp, you have to be patient. Sometimes you don't want to be, but you need to be," Briles said. The Bears rested David Gettis in Wednesday's practice as a precaution.
So what caught our eye at practice on Wednesday?
The "Packer Yellow" football pants worn by the team caught our eye. While it was explained that the team would only wear the yellow pants during practice, it was almost an exact replica of the Green Bay Packers uniform.,br>
Play of the Day
With practice drawing to a close, and all eyes on him, kicker Shea Brewster boots a 47 yard field goal through the uprights to close out practice.
