Mike Hicks is a Central Texas standout from China Spring High School in China Spring, Texas. Recently he gave his pledge to play football for the local Baylor Bears. BearsIllustrated.com caught up with him to get the latest.
"Baylor is a hometown school. It is a good school that wanted me to come play for them. So, it was an easy decision for me."
Hicks explains that former China Spring standout, and former Baylor Bears quarterback Shawn Bell, talked with Hicks several times about the importance of college.
"He [Shawn Bell] did not talk about Baylor, but just college in general. He helped out a lot with questions and things like that."
Hicks will be playing safety for the Baylor Bears,a position that he is excited to get to play for Head Coach Art Briles.
"It was an 'either or' deal with offense or defense. It did not really matter which one they picked for me. I just went with what they wanted me to do."
Hicks, a 5-11 183 District MVP, recently has been clocked at a 4.5 forty. Hicks explains that he has built a good relationship with Baylor's Defensive Coordinator Brian Norwood.
"He is real good. He is really nice, and he is really helpful."
Hicks explains that his commitment is strong with Baylor.
