Outside LB Looks to Commit Before Summers End

Once thought to be a sure commitment for Michigan, this Cedar Park standout is now looking elsewhere to avoid changing positions. Find out where his offers are from and what he thinks about Baylor inside.

Standing at 6'2" 220 lbs and turning in a 4.51, outside linebacker Holmes Onwukaife was intent on Michigan as recently as last month, but a surplus of Wolverines at the position have forced him to look elsewhere. BearsIllustrated.com talked with him on where he stands now.

What schools have made you offers so far?

"Baylor, Colorado, Missourri, Michigan, Kentucky, Maryland, Kansas, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Tulane, Rice and SMU."

Have you begun to narrow that list down to a top five or top ten?

"Not yet."

You have an offer from Baylor. What are your thoughts on the Bears?

"Their head coach is turning things around at Baylor. And you know I think they're a very good program that's going to be great in the next few years. So I'm really taking a look at them."

What are the most important things that will affect your college choice?

"Good academic school and a good football team. Good team chemistry where they bond real well, help each other out, mentor the younger ones, and a great playing atmosphere"

Do you know what major you are considering?

"Probably something in the health field."

What do you think your biggest strengths and weaknesses are as a player?

"My speed and quickness. I hustle to the ball even when its on the other side of the field. I'm working on my pad level right now and better usage of my hands."

When would you like to have made a call for a school?

"Hopefully before school starts."

Holmes piled up 50 tackles and 9 sacks for Cedar Park as a Junior last season.
