Baylor Commit Ready To Play In Waco

The beginning of the summer brought good news for the bears with a commitment from Matt Ritchey. See what gave Baylor the edge and what has him excited about Waco inside.

Commitments this early in the game are often placeholders while recruits continue to test the recruiting waters. BearsIllustrated.com caught up with Baylor commit Matt Ritchey to see what gave him the confidence to make the early call and how solid that commitment is.

How strong is your commitment to play for Baylor?

"I'd say it's a definite."

What factors played major roles in that decision to go with the Bears?

"Just the future they have. With coach Briles, you know he can turn programs around, and I believe he'll do the same at Baylor. They were real aggressive in recruiting me so that made me feel like I was a part of them."

You've mentioned Briles before as a big reason for your commitment. Why is that?

"Just his success in the past. He's also from west Texas so that's another big thing."

What excites you about playing for Baylor?

"Of course the quarterback, Griffin. He's one of the top athletes. Its just neat to be around some of the best athletes in Texas. And just playing in Texas and having a big game every week. I'm excited to go to a place like Waco. I went and visited the other day and I think it's the perfect place for me to be. I'm just real excited."

What do you think you bring to the table that will make Baylor a better team?

"I just try to make every play I can whether its away from the ball or wherever it needs to be done I do my job."

What goals do you have for this summer and your senior year?

"What we've done here is the summer workout program for our school and also 7-on-7. I'm just getting stronger and faster and gaining a little a bit of weight. As far as team goals really Ive always wanted to go far in the playoffs. Other than that just whatever I can do to make our team better is what I strive for the most."
