Fans of the Baylor Bears men's basketball team will be waiting anxiously for 5:00 this afternoon, when they will learn whether Ekpe Udoh will return for his senior season to try to lead the Bears back into a deep post-season run in the NCAA Tournament. Udoh would join fellow senior Lacedarius Dunn to make up arguably the best 1-2 combo going into the Big 12 next season.
Udoh has taken his time in deciding what he should do about his future and whether now is the right time to show the NBA what he can do. Coach Drew summed it up best about Udoh's decision: "Ekpe has two great options. He can help us compete for a national championship. He loves Baylor and the people here, and he's represented the university well. At the same time, his goal is to play at the highest level, and he's put himself in position to do that."
Although Udoh will announce his decision today, depending upon whether that decision is to enter the draft and depending further on whether he will hire an agent, the waiting might not quite be over for Baylor fans. If Udoh declares for the NBA, but does not hire an agent, he could still opt to come back to Baylor after learning what scouts have to say about his draft position.
With a healthy amount of NBA early entrants already declaring for the draft, it is now Baylor's turn to sweat out losing one of it's best players early. One way or the other, Baylor fans will have a better idea of Udoh's future at 5:00 today.
