Baylor Gets Pledge From DT

The Baylor Bears scored big on Monday picking up a verbal pledge from a defensive tackle. Find out who it is and what he had to say only inside

Standing 6'3" and weighing in at 290 pounds, San Antonio MacArthur High School defensive tackle Ashaad Mabry is hard to miss. Holding offers from SMU and Baylor, Mabry decided to end his recruitment early.

"I committed to Baylor University. I liked the coaches and the school, and I just felt comfortable there," Mabry says about his verbal pledge to Art Briles and the Baylor Bears.

Gaining interest from a host of Big 12 schools, Mabry recently received a Baylor offer. With his commitment, Mabry explains that he is done with the recruiting process.

"I am not looking around anymore. I am not going to go back on my word. I am committed to Baylor," Mabry explains.

Quick off the ball, Mabry is an athletic defensive tackle who patterns his game after NFL superstars Pat Williams and Kevin Williams. While Mabry hopes to one day play in the NFL, he realizes that college is an opportunity for other things as well. "I want to help my teammates first. I want to help the team win, and be a part of this team," says Mabry.

The talented interior defensive lineman is looking to spend most of his time in the business school after deciding to major in business management and finance. As for what he will be doing when he is not hitting the books over the summer? He will be hitting a couple of camps.

"I will be going to Baylor's Steele Camp, and will probably go to the Baylor Big Man camp," Mabry explains.

With his commitment, the Baylor Bears now have 7 verbal pledges to date. Stay tuned to for all the latest in recruiting and athletics.
