Lady Bronco Volleyball Team is Winning

Don't look now but the Boise State volleyball team is off to a winning start. The Broncos scored another win last night on the road against Weber State to advance to 6-2.

The Lady Broncos downed Weber State last night 20-25, 25-11, 25-13 and 25-23 in Ogden. Boise State improved to 6-2 this season. Although admittedly Weber State is winless at 0-8, the Bronco volleyball team hasn't had this kind of record in quite awhile. Their last winning season was 2004 when they were 17-12. Despite early losses to South Dakota State and Washington, the Broncos have reeled off wins against Air Force, Long Island, Gonzaga, Portland State and Utah Valley.

Boise State got off to a rough start but battled back and dominated the next two sets. The Wildcats led in most of set four until the Broncos caught them at 21 and were able to win the set and the match. Senior middle blocker Alisha Young recorded 14 kills to lead Boise State, while Said Maughan and Fiona Jones each had 12 and Elizabeth Griffin chipped in with 10. Griffin was 10-13 in kills for a match-high .692 hitting percentage. Maughan had four block assists to lead Boise State while Jones and sophomore Kersti Whitney had 10 digs apiece. Breann Nesselhuf had 55 assists on the evening.

Bethany Wray led Weber State with 10 kills while Kim Lissinna had nine digs and 27 set assists.

The Broncos will travel to Laramie, Wyoming this weekend for the Uni/Wyo Cowgirl Classic hosted by Wyoming. Portland and Texas-Arlington will also be competing in the tournament.
