Boise State is encouraging a large crowd for two soccer games during Homecoming Week. The Broncos host the two top offensive teams in the Western Athletic Conference when New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech come to town. The Lady Broncos host New Mexico State Friday at 4 p.m. and Tech for a Sunday afternoon encounter at 1. Both games are at the Boise State Boas Soccer Complex on South Oakland Avenue.
New Mexico State comes into the match with a 6-4-2 record while Louisiana Tech is flying high at 11-3. Boise State built momentum for the homestand with a 4-0 shutout of Hawai'i on the islands last week to open Western Athletic Conference play.
Senior Shannon Saxton became the first Bronco in school history to record two hat tricks in a career with three goals against the Wahine and broke Brittany Zoellner's (1999-2003) career record with her 32nd goal. Saxton also extended her career points record to 83.
Every WAC team is gunning for the defending champion Broncos and Coach Steve Lucas's team must be aggressive. New Mexico State defeated Boise State 1-0 last year in Las Cruces. The Aggies rank second in the conference with 28 goals and their attack will be a challenge for Bronco goalkeeper Liz Ruiz. Crystal Burns paces New Mexico State with six goals and seven assists.
Louisiana Tech lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to Utah State and then upended one of the WAC's better teams in Nevada, 3-1. The Lady Bulldogs have exploded for 41 goals this season to dominate that category. Rachel King leads the conference with 10 goals while Kiva Gresham and Taylor Dennis have six goals each.
Boise State is looking to get over the hump as they have lost six matches by one goal (4-7-1). It is important that the Lady Broncos launch consistent aggressive attacks to take pressure off their star goalkeeper, who can only stop so many shots.
Come out and support the Bronco soccer team in their two key Homecoming contests.
